The Gentle Start process works around giving the client time and space to decide on an action to take – rehome, donate, recycle or keep sentimental items and how best to store them. Everything Has A Place will provide stickers for clients to place on items to categorise them as they work through the belongings.

Some people may feel that they owe it to the person who has left us to sort all these things themselves, but just need a little support to get started. Others simply find the emotions overwhelming and need someone to step in and gently guide them. Both pathways can be fully supported.

• For family doing it themselves – making the decision of what should happen a loved ones belongings is the hardest part, Everything Has A Place will action those decisions to make it easier on the family.
• For family who cannot empty the home- Everything Has A Place will step in and move items from their original locations. Then the families can make decisions of what should happen to the belongings within a safe space, one that is less emotionally attached to the memories of the loved one. As everyone deals with loss and bereavement differently, the service focuses around arranging clients wishes after they have made decisions on where belongings should go.
